Blue LED, is fashionable in cars, unless it is already out of fashion. It is liked by certain fishes that hang out in certain aquariums and has its own function and characteristics that make it special and precious. IS' the blue LED to have made the "precious" and I say this because it took much more time and effort to develop it than those required the red leds and the green leds.
The search for the right material is duration 30 years and beyond, a great patience that was awarded the Nobel Prize. Before delving into their characteristics, it is important to me to specify a characteristic not only of the blue LEDs but of all LED bulbs: when they no longer work they must not be placed in the normal separate waste collection. They do not have mercury inside but an electronic mechanism that makes them a material to be returned to the shopkeeper or in ecological islands such as WEEE.
Blue LED: characteristics
One of the most popular features of LEDs is undoubtedly their luminous efficiency. That of incandescent bulbs is about 70, the LEDs reach 300 and this involves considerable energy savings, if we want to be illuminated.
THE Blue LED they arrived later, the first to be developed were the red ones, around the seventies. Today we treat it like light bulbs but, looking closer, or even studying them, we can begin to define them with more suitable words. They are optoelectronic devices that shed light using the properties of semiconductors.
If them "Disassemble", ideally, we would find three layers, one with electrons, called n, one with positive charge carriers, the p layer, and the third, intermediate state, that of the semiconductor, which is then the active layer. There light is output when a voltage is applied to the layer n and at layer p which causes electrons to combine with positive charges, emitting photons which are what light is for us.
THE Blue LED they are blue because the photons are emitted with a certain frequency which also depends on the semiconductor used. In general the color of the light depends on this frequency, so this also applies to the red and green LEDs, for example.
Blue LED: high brightness
With the blue LEDs, combined with the red and green ones, you have a satisfactory light, the one that is associated with the LED lamps that many of us have or want to have at home. This high brightness was not so high and appreciated before the arrival of the Blue LED.
We owe its appearance to the three award scientists Nobel Akasaki, Amano and Nakamura who started working on it years ago, in the early nineties, finding the material that emitted the frequency corresponding to blue. It is a compound based on high quality gallium nitride crystals.
Given precisely thehigh brightness obtained thanks to Blue LED together with the others, we can be sure to save a lot on the bill, a benefit for everyone but especially for those who have so far been able to light up less due to the cost of this service.
Blue LED for car
There are discussion forums filled with opinions and answers regarding the use of Blue LED in cars. And on cars. In fact, it should be specified how and where you would like to insert them before understanding whether it is lawful or not. Inside the passenger compartment, in fact, it is now possible to install the Blue LED like those of any other color, this does not apply to "external" use.
The position lights, as well as the arrows, or other lights that are used to drive safely must obey the requirements dictated by the Highway Code and Blue LED they are not allowed. Having said that, let's be content with having them in the passenger compartment, if we love blue, proceeding instead to insert LEDs of other colors outside our car. The red ones are recommended for the stop lights, while the yellow ones are recommended for the arrows.
Blue LED for motorcycle
The legislation for motorcycles does not vary much, obviously taking into account that there is no passenger compartment to think about and therefore there is no lights Blue LED. Those of another color are very popular, though, because they have a number of advantages.
They are more robust and well withstand vibrations and shocks, in fact the rest of the vehicle is often damaged before the lights. They also make pure light and you don't have to wait for them to "warm up" to emit it in all its beauty. And it is not matter of beauty because, if we talk about brake lights, the sooner they come on the easier it is for those who see us to notice our braking.
As we have already seen for the LED in the house, even on the bike, these special lights consume much less so they are often used as license plate and position lights.
Aquarium blue LED
Blue LEDs are not only liked by motorists and centaurs but also by fish. And how, so much so that there are devices specially designed to install this particular color in aquariums. We find it for example as an accessory for marine aquariums, with one color Actinic Royal Blue which can also be suitable for freshwater ones if combined with white and pink lights.
