Hirsutism: causes and natural remedies

Hirsutism, often confused with hypertrichosis, two problems that are similar in appearance but which are very different in their origins and treatments. Even if they do not see us personally involved, it is interesting to deepen and unmask stereotypes and beliefs that can hurt those who suffer from them or make us unmotivated fears.

Hirsutism: causes

Hirsutism can be linked to the appearance of endocrine diseases affecting the adrenal glands, the main producers of testosterone in women's bodies. There are cases in which this problem is not associated with detectable pathologies or with determining predisposing factors, then we speak of idiopathic hirsutism.

One of the differences is this: in the first case the cause is one excessive testosterone secretion, in the second it is most likely an abnormal cellular sensitivity to androgens. Me too'taking certain medications may be the basis of hirsutism, in this case the origins of the disorder are called iatrogenic and the drugs involved are for example androgenic hormones, corticosteroids and anabolic steroids.

Finally, among the possible causes we find gods low levels of SHBG, a decrease in estrogen or an increase in the number of androgen receptors.

Hirsutism: Diagnosis

When we talk about hirsutism, we want to refer to one abnormal presence of hard and coarse hair in women, in areas where they do not appear, contrary to what would happen in a male body. Areas such as the upper lip, chin, abdomen, back, around the areola of the nipple and the center of the chest. A confirmation of the presence of hirsutism in a woman is also the lozenge arrangement of the pubic hair

Chin hirsutism

The chin, mentioned above, is one of the most prominent areas where this problem can occur appearance of abnormal hair. Sometimes you can also resort to surgical removal, if treatment with drugs does not work or is not feasible for medical reasons. The drugs most often indicated are those that reduce the synthesis of testosterone and / or increase the estrogenic one or others, aimed at inhibiting the conversion to dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Male hirsutism

Hirsutism usually affects women, by definition, because it is in fact understood as linked to the presence of "man" hair in the physique of a female. The male, by default, has more hair and this fact is linked to the secretion of androgens, clearly higher in the male body than in the female.

Hirsutism: treatment with natural remedies

To try to remedy this ailment in a natural way, which also invades the "rebound" psychological sphere, there are some tricks that we can mark. Starting from the menu: they are in fact recommended foods rich in antioxidants, such as fruits (blueberries, cherries and tomatoes) and vegetables (squash and peppers). Better instead don't overdo it with other types of foods such as refined ones: white bread, pasta and especially sugar.

The quantity of meat should not be reduced in general, it is enough to prefer the lean meats alternating them with cold water fish, tofu and beans. The "bad" fats present in commercial baked goods must be removed from the diet, always seasoning the dishes with extra virgin olive oil. Alcohol and tobacco are enemies of those suffering from hirsutism, it is necessary to drink plenty of water and exercise regularly.

Me too'acupuncture it is often recommended to combat this problem: to date there are no definite proofs of its effectiveness but many secondary studies on it, yet to be investigated.

Hirsutism and hypertrichosis

There is a clear difference, even if not always obvious, between hypertrichosis and hirsutism. The first is a problem only of the amount of hair while the second also concerns the hair quality, whether it is a widespread disorder throughout the body, or whether it concerns only one area.

I repeat that hirsutism does not mean "having more hair than average" but having numerous hairs with a different appearance from that typical of female hair, in areas where males are usually the only ones to have them: face, thorax or back of hands and feet.
